This project was born of a desire to connect people with animals, nature and the environment regardless of the person’s “special needs” or “problems”. By offering respite breaks with farm based activities, individually tailored to the needs and wishes of each client, who hope to provide them with their own unique, fun and informative experience. The therapeutic benefits of sharing our lives with animals has been well documented, as have the benefits of outdoor activities and we hope to offer both these experiences to people who may find it hard to be accommodated within mainstream holiday centres.

Joined-Up Holidays will be ideal for children and adults with a wide range of needs including physical, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The centre is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of Hamsterley forest and will be fully equipped and wheelchair friendly. We have anticipated opening date of April 2011 although staff wil be appointed earlier in preparation for the launch date. 

Experienced and qualified staff will provide a comprehensive day care service and at a later date, a 24 hour care programme, specific to each individual guest. There will be a wide range of activities for guests including horse care and equestrian skills, carriage driving, dog agility and training, a petting farm, nature trails, conservation projects, a rare breeds centre, play area, sensory and organic gardens. While guests enjoy a fun packed respite break, their family and carers will have an opportunity for a well earned rest.
